XL Alloy Soviet chess set
A Soviet chess set in alloy. Made in Ukraine in the 1980's. Kings are 20 cm high! The chessmen weigh 15 kgs. The chessboard comes from Holland and weighs 25 kgs. The square size is 10 cms. A really impressive set that I completely restored. White pieces have a polished aluminium finish while the black ones have a glossy paint finish.
The pieces in the shape I received them. As you can see the paint coat was peeling away.
After a very long sanding and polishing process, the white army is now very impressive!
Kings and Queens.
Black pieces have been sanded and painted with an automotive paint.
The chessboard comes from Holland. I actually bought it 6 months before I found the pieces which would go so well with it !
Isn't it simply beautiful ?
Including the Greek column, the total weight is around 100 kgs!
